Mullite/silica Pouring cups
Metsch pour cups are produced from high grade mullite compositions tested and qualified by aerospace sector foundries for over 50 years. Designed for in-service durability. All features contribute to improving casting yields by assisting the foundry to protect the mold during handling throughout the process and by avoiding inclusions during the pour. Metsch offers both a standard line of pouring cup products, the Thousand Series, as well as custom design manufacture for unique customer requierements. The Metsch mullite/silica compositions (MRI 212 and MRI 219) offer beneficial product features as follow.
MRI 219 Product Features
- High thermal shock resistance
- Consistent smooth surface finish
- Good mechanical strength
- Over 30 years in continual use
- Suitable for “Equiax” casting process only
- Thermally compatible with shell systems using fused silica back-up coat materials
MRI 212 Product Features
- Extreme thermal shock resistance
- Good mechanical strength
- Consistent smooth surface finish
- Suitable for “Equiax” casting process only
- Not suitable for use as a “primary” cup attached to the mold
- Designed for use in “secondary” pour cup applications and for re-usable accessory products such as cup covers and discs

Types and sizes
Consideration of the optimal cup shape solution will first be given to the Thousand Series line of pouring cups which is available without a tooling charge. If a Thousand Series model does not meet your requirement, we will assist with the design/build of the custom pour cup shape for your mold and pouring requirements.
